Another debate has popped up surrounding the novel coronavirus pandemic. This time, it’s around so-called “vaccine passports” that would be used as proof of vacation to allow an individual to travel or attend public gatherings. The idea is opposed by Republicans but as Jimmy Kimmel explained in his monologue, it’s for a very dumb reason.

Everyone wants to get the country back to “normal” or as close to it as possible in a post-COVID-19 world. The problem is the massive divide when it comes to ideas on how to make that possible. Half the country is maintaining social distancing and mask guidelines while the other half is going about their business as usual, including traveling for spring break.

Nowhere is that divide more evident than among politicians. Democrats and Republicans have disagreed on mask mandates, relief bills, and just about every other facet of the pandemic response imaginable. We can now add “vaccine passports” to the list.

Jimmy Kimmel’s monologue addressed two prominent Republicans who spoke out against vaccine passports: Florida Governor Ron DeSantis and Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene. Check out the video below to see why Kimmel says the GOP’s argument is “dumb.”

Jimmy Kimmel calls out Republicans for weak vaccine passport arguments

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis strongly rejected the idea of vaccine passports. He described them as completely unnecessary and something his administration does not support.

Kimmel used the opportunity to introduce DeSantis as “terrible” before pointing out the inconsistency in the Republican’s argument. The late night host reminds his audience that the GOP is the same party that wants “nine forms of identification before you can vote.”

Kimmel then moves on to Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene, who continues to be Jimmy Kimmel’s new favorite target.  The Georgia Congresswoman suggested that vaccine passports would be “Biden’s mark of the beast.” Kimmel insulted Rep. Greene and joked how difficult it must be for President Joe Biden to reach across the aisle when the other side thinks he has hooves.

Rep. Greene’s confusion over communism and fascism is another example of why Kimmel can’t take her or the GOP’s argument seriously. The comedian proposes a test to get into Congress to weed out candidates like Marjorie Taylor Greene.

It looks like vaccine passports have already turned into another culture war related to the pandemic. It may not be the sign of the beast but it is a sign of just how divided lawmakers remain when it comes to getting the country safely back on its feet.
