Will Arnett gives an all-time performance after Jason Bateman bails on Kimmel
By Matt Moore
Jimmy Kimmel Live! needed a favor from Will Arnett on Wednesday night and the actor went above and beyond in answering the call. After Jason Bateman canceled his scheduled appearance, Arnett stepped in and delivered an all-time performance.
Jimmy Kimmel was set to interview Bateman last night on the show but plans changed when the actor’s shooting schedule on Ozark meant an appearance was not possible. In stepped Bateman’s friend, co-star, and co-host Will Arnett.
In addition to co-starring on Arrested Development, Bateman and Arnett currently co-host the podcast “SmartLess” along with Sean Hayes. The podcast has been a success in large part due to the chemistry between Arnett and Bateman.
We’ll have to see where that friendship stands after Arnett’s appearance last night on Jimmy Kimmel Live!. In typical fashion, Arnett landed some subtle jabs on Bateman before moving on and delivering one of the best performances you’ll see from a late night guest, complete with a steak dinner.
Will Arnett continues to be one of late night television’s best guests
The fact that Arnett wasn’t supposed to be on the show and didn’t have a show or movie to promote was liberating for both the actor and Jimmy Kimmel. Arnett felt so relaxed that he enjoyed the steak dinner Jimmy Kimmel Live! sent over while being interviewed and managed to plug Diet Coke.
Beyond the steak dinner, the interview had everything from a reference to Joe Pantoliano in The Matrix to an unstable internet connection to a diss of Paul McCartney. It’s hard to think of another recent late night interview in which the guest couldn’t miss no matter what joke or bit he tried. The constant laughter from Kimmel and his audience was all the proof needed.
Arnett and Kimmel eventually teamed up on Jason Bateman for bailing on the show. There’s a good chance the Ozark star will make up for it with an appearance sooner or later. Fans won’t want to miss that one because Bateman will surely have a response. And maybe even a steak of his own.
