The Late Show with Stephen Colbert was off on Presidents Day, leaving fans waiting to hear Stephen Colbert’s take on the news. Should they expect a return to the air tonight?

Late night television fans were hoping to get a reaction from Colbert following former President Donald Trump’s acquittal on Friday. The verdict was no surprise, especially for Colbert. But after spending weeks calling out Republicans by name, viewers anticipated another strong response from the Late Show host.

But instead of a fresh episode, Monday featured a replay of the Jan. 6 show in which Colbert was live after the Capitol insurrection. Fans are holding out hope that The Late Show is back tonight.

Unfortunately, that is not the case. There will not be a new episode of The Late Show with Stephen Colbert tonight.

Instead, CBS will reair the Feb. 4 show. Fans can get another chance to see Colbert interview actress Tiffany Haddish and catch a performance by H.E.R.

The Late Show with Stephen Colbert continues to lead late night television in ratings

An extended break for The Late Show with Stephen Colbert is well-deserved. It has gone above and beyond in its coverage of the second impeachment trial, remaining fans’ preferred destination for political comedy in late night.

The ratings have reflected that since 2021 began. The Late Show has held a steady lead over Jimmy Kimmel Live! and The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.

We’ll have to wait and see how and if things change now that the impeachment trial is over. But Colbert has proved in the past that he doesn’t need Donald Trump to be in the news to attract viewers.
