Pop sensation Olivia Rodrigo made her television debut last night, performing “drivers license” on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.
The performance premiered on YouTube in a special event for the Tonight Show. Fans spent all day Thursday counting down to the performance, eager to see “drivers license” performed live after watching the music video millions of times and streaming it even more.
Rodrigo did not disappoint and delivered for those fans who have waited for a live version of “drivers license.” The YouTube video earned 400,000 views in its first seven hours, already making it one of the most popular recent musical performances on The Tonight Show.

There was no chance that Olivia Rodrigo was going to let down her fans with her Tonight Show performance. Still, expectations were high given how popular the song has become in such a relatively short period of time.
Rodrigo delivered with an intimate performance that highlighted her vocal talent and the powerful message behind “drivers license”. With just a piano and a spotlight, Rodrigo gave fans a captivating rendition of the song. On social media, there was an outpouring of support for the singer and her successful television debut.
Fans were also quick to point out that Rodrigo was wearing a Taylor Swift cardigan. Rodrigo has cited Swift as a major influence on her and has claimed that she’s the biggest Swift fan in the world. Using her television debut, a major event in any artist’s career, to honor Swift makes it hard to argue with Rodrigo about that.
Olivia Rodrigo has many more television appearances and performances ahead of her. She set a pretty high bar for herself on The Tonight Show but fans didn’t expect anything less.
