Stephen Colbert has been desperate for some normalcy in the White House. The Late Show host is confident that President Joe Biden is on his way to doing just that, especially after continuing a tradition skipped by his predecessor.

Over the weekend, President Biden’s two German Shepherd dogs, Champ and Major, officially moved into the White House. Previously, President Donald Trump joined President James K. Polk as the only two not to have pets while in office.

The arrival of Champ and Major was a big hit on the internet. That wasn’t surprising considering how much the internet loves dogs. Add in the fact that it reminded people of how many traditions President Trump ignored, and you can see why Champ and Major were celebrated so much.

That celebration extended to The Late Show with Stephen Colbert on Tuesday night. Stephen Colbert’s monologue ended by extending a warm welcome to Champ and Major while also taking another dig at former President Trump.

Stephen Colbert is looking for any signs of normalcy he can find

Colbert described the arrival of Champ and Major Biden as some of the only good news coming out of Washington, D.C. right now. It may be a relatively small thing that will be forgotten in time but right now, Colbert will take any signs of normalcy he can get (including the chance to roast Senator Lindsey Graham).

It was just a few weeks ago that Colbert was breathing a sigh of relief about the normalcy of President Biden’s inauguration. It may have come during abnormal times due to the pandemic and failed insurrection, but Colbert saw it as an indication of better times ahead.

Most people would agree that things are always better with dogs around. So here’s hoping for more books, photoshoots, and occasionally interrupting barks from the White House’s newest residents.
