Fans of The Queen’s Gambit will want to check out Stephen Colbert’s latest project

Stephen Colbert may be one of the most creative people in entertainment but the Late Show host isn’t above riding the coattails of a big hit. And in 2020, there were few bigger sensations than The Queen’s Gambit on Netflix.

The miniseries was launched in Oct. 2020 and quickly became the most-watched scripted miniseries in Netflix history. It also made Anya Taylor-Joy one of the most wildly popular actresses seemingly overnight.

The Queen’s Gambit did the same for the game of chess itself. Aided by millions of people in quarantine, the game saw a rise in popularity thanks to the Netflix drama.

Now Hollywood is looking to cash in and Stephen Colbert wants in on the action. Last night on The Late Show, Colbert offered a sneak peek at a show he’s producing based on another classic game.

In case you missed it, that title was “Turn the Left Bottom Middle Sideways Toward the Front-Facing Part.” It doesn’t quite have the same ring to it as The Queen’s Gambit but then again, a Rubik’s cube doesn’t illicit the same drama as chess.

Colbert’s parody would be even more absurd if it wasn’t based on a true story. As Variety reports, a movie and a game show based on the Rubik’s cube is in development. Whenever that project sees the light of day, it will have to reach the high bar set by Colbert’s production.

Stephen Colbert recently interviewed The Queen’s Gambit star Anya Taylor-Joy

If you’re a fan of The Queen’s Gambit, then you’ve probably tried to keep up with star Anya Taylor-Joy as she made the rounds on talk shows over the past few months. The actress seems to be taking the attention in stride while praising the Netflix series.

Taylor-Joy’s promotional tour recently took her to The Late Show with Stephen Colbert. She quickly endeared herself to the late night TV host by sharing that she spent Christmas watching the Lord of the Rings trilogy.

When it came to The Queen’s Gambit, the conversation covered the show’s popularity, her popularity, and the fashion of the show. If you missed the interview, you can watch it below:
