Late night TV hosts like Jimmy Kimmel, Stephen Colbert, and more reacted to President Donald Trump’s Twitter ban

President Donald Trump has been banned from social media platforms including Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram in response to the false information he has shared that influenced violence at the Capitol last week. And while late night TV hosts have long mocked President Trump for his tweets, the comedians found even more satisfaction from his newfound silence.

The social media ban is just one consequence of the attack on the Capitol. President Trump is still facing a likely second impeachment and the 25th Amendment could still be invoked. President Trump may only have a few days left in office but not without accountability.

Monday gave late night TV the chance to respond to @realdonaldtrump going offline. From Jimmy Kimmel to Jimmy Fallon, Stephen Colbert to Seth Meyers, late night has mined President Trump’s Twitter feed for punchlines and monologue topics for years. Despite this, nobody in late night was complaining about the news.

Here’s a roundup of how late night TV reacted to President Trump’s Twitter ban. Be sure to let us know which response was your favorite.

Late night TV reaction: Stephen Colbert

Stephen Colbert’s monologue on Monday night mostly focused on his response to the latest developments stemming from the attack on the Capitol. Colbert admitted he underplayed the severity of the violence and now finds himself angrier than ever.

The end of Colbert’s monologue addressed President Trump’s Twitter ban. The Late Show host was happy to see some consequences for President Trump but it won’t be nearly enough to satisfy Colbert.

Late night TV reaction: Jimmy Kimmel

Nobody in late night TV does Twitter quite like Jimmy Kimmel. From back-and-forths with politicians to “Mean Tweets,” Jimmy Kimmel is one of the most active hosts on the platform.

Time and time again, Jimmy Kimmel Live! has kept track of President Trump’s tweets. Kimmel has been amused, annoyed, shocked, and just about everything else while reading @realDonaldTrump’s feed on air.

In his reaction, Kimmel joked that President Trump’s ban from Twitter may actually be a bad thing. Now we have no way of knowing where he is or what he’s thinking. To help the president cope, Kimmel listed off some other apps he could try.

Late night TV reaction: Jimmy Fallon

On The Tonight Show, Jimmy Fallon tried to imagine just how angry President Trump must have been to find out about his Twitter ban. The comedian pointed out that the president is likely far more upset about it than he was over the Capitol attack or an imminent second impeachment.

And like the other late night hosts, Fallon isn’t shedding any tears over the end of @realDonaldTrump. He explained why the ban will let Twitter get back to what it was really meant for: judging celebrities at award shows.

Late night TV reaction: Seth Meyers

Late Night with Seth Meyers has cited hundreds of President Trump’s tweets during “A Closer Look.” Still, the show is more than happy to see the Twitter account come to an end along with the president’s time in office.

Seth Meyers decided that the news didn’t even need a punchline. In fact, he went so far as to have the cue card with the news framed in celebration.
