John Oliver ended Aug. with the main story connecting the Republican National Convention with the shootings in Kenosha, Wisconsin. Since then, the Republican Party has only insulated more around President Donald Trump while protests against racial injustice and police violence continue.

For Last Week Tonight, the time off had one thing worth celebrating: another the Emmys. The show took home awards for Outstanding Variety Talk Series and Outstanding Writer for a Variety Series.
