What should Real Time with Bill Maher fans expect to see tonight?

The eyes of the political world were on the Republican National Convention and President Donald Trump this week. Fans can expect the same attention from Real Time with Bill Maher.

Real Time with Bill Maher continues its 18th season with a brand new episode tonight on HBO. Bill Maher will surely have a lot to say about the RNC and the performances by speakers such as Donald Trump, Jr., Kimberly Guilfoyle, and of course President Trump himself.

It comes during a period when Real Time is getting some extra attention from the White House. We aren’t too far removed from President Trump calling out Bill Maher by name on Twitter over a mock eulogy. The Real Time host has made multiple references to their spat on his show.

Last week, Maher “confessed” to being the leader behind the QAnon conspiracy theory movement. He explained in detail how his ideas have infiltrated the GOP and the White House.

Given the RNC and his guest lineup, Bill Maher will certainly have a lot more to say about President Trump and his supporters tonight. Here’s a breakdown of tonight’s Real Time guests.

Tonight’s Real Time with Bill Maher interviews

Bill Maher’s first interview tonight is with someone making his Real Time debut. Former South Carolina Representative Trey Gowdy will join the show.

Gowdy, a Republican, served in Congress from 2011 to 2019. After leaving politics, he joined Fox News as a contributor. While supporting President Trump in the past, Gowdy recently criticized the president on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert over the pandemic response.

On Real Time, Gowdy will discuss his new book Doesn’t Hurt to Ask: Using the Power of Questions to Communicate, Connect, and Persuade. He’s also likely to review the GOP’s performance during the Republican National Convention and answer Maher’s questions on whether or not President Trump deserves four more years.

Maher’s next interview guest is also a Real Time first-timer. Musician Wynton Marsalis will be on the show.

Marsalis is a jazz musician with nine Grammy Awards and a Pulitzer Prize on his resume. His latest release is “The Every Fonky Lowdown.”

As he has in other recent interviews, viewers can expect Marsalis to comment on the social unrest and racial justice protests around the country. Reviews of his new album have noted the political elements of his new music which is something Maher will surely want to explore.

Tonight’s Real Time with Bill Maher panel

Tonight’s Real Time with Bill Maher panel features one newcomer and one frequent visitor. Both will have a lot to say about President Trump.

Nina Burleigh is a journalist and author whose work has appeared in Rolling StoneNewsweekThe New York Times, and Slate. On Sept. 22, she’ll publish a paperback edition of her 2018 book The Trump Women: Part of the Deal.

The book examines Donald Trump’s relationship with his grandmother, mother, two ex-wives, First Lady Melania Trump, and his daughter Ivanka Trump. After the First Lady and Ivanka Trump spoke at the RNC, Burleigh may be able to provide insight on their performance and what life is like behind the scenes.

Rick Wilson is a political consultant and co-founder of The Lincoln Project political action committee. He was last on Real Time with Bill Maher in January.

The Lincoln Project has made a splash with its television ads and social media posts targeting President Trump. Wilson should back up Maher on why President Trump has to go and why a number of Republicans are willing to see that reality come true. Wilson will also want to plug his book Running Against the Devil: A Plot to Save America From Trump–and Democrats From Themselves.
