Here’s late-night TV’s schedule for the week of August 24
The end of August is the unofficial end of summer. So with just a week left, many people are trying to fit in one more vacation while others are back to work for the foreseeable future. Late-night TV is no different as fans will find out this week.
The pandemic and its related restrictions also continue to affect late-night production. Interviews continue to be conducted remotely. However, a number of shows have returned to the studio with others planning on doing the same. The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, and The Late Late Show with James Corden are among those who have returned to the studio, albeit with a slightly different look.
So who’s on and who’s off this week? You’ve come to the right place to find out everything about late-night television’s schedule starting tonight.
We’ll also give you a heads up on the guest lineup for those shows that return with new episodes this week. Be sure to let us know who you’ll be tuning in to watch.
This week’s late-night TV schedule for ABC
Jimmy Kimmel Live! has had the most interesting summer of any late-night show. Jimmy Kimmel announced he was taking a summer vacation right before he found himself at the center of controversy.
The ABC show has carried on with guest hosts such as Anthony Anderson, Sarah Cooper, Dua Lipa, and Billy Eichner. Jimmy Kimmel Live! will return this week with another batch of new shows led by guest hosts.
First up, David Spade makes his return to late-night television. After Comedy Central prematurely pulled the plug on Lights Out with David Spade, the comedian has been delivering monologues from his home and posting them on YouTube.
Spade returns to guest-host Jimmy Kimmel Live! after having done so in the past. He’ll interview Schitt’s Creek actor Dan Levy on Monday night then return on Tuesday to chat with his The Wrong Missy co-star Lauren Lapkus.
On Wednesday night, singer Jason Derulo tries his hand at late-night TV. He’ll interview country music singer Luke Bryan. Kimmel! ends its week on Thursday with guest host Lil Rel Howry who is set to talk with actress and comedian Yvonne Orji.
This week’s late-night TV schedule for CBS
Over on CBS, The Late Show with Stephen Colbert is coming off a monster week. The show was live each night after the Democratic National Convention. Stephen Colbert’s interviews with Susan Rice, Senator Bernie Sanders, and former First Lady Hillary Clinton were highlights of another impressive week of live shows.
The Late Show gets right back to work tonight for another week of shows. And with the Republican National Convention set to kick off on Tuesday, you can expect Colbert and company to be on top of their game.
Guests to watch this week include “Pod Save America” hosts Jon Favreau, Jon Lovett, and Tommy Vietor on Monday, Aug. 24, actors Keanu Reeves and Alex Winter on Tuesday, Aug. 25, and former New Jersey Governor Chris Christie on Thursday, Aug. 27.
The Late Late Show with James Corden will also deliver brand new episodes this week. It recently became the latest late-night TV show to return to its studio. James Corden picked up right where he left off.
On Monday, Aug. 24, fan-favorite actress Maisie Williams joins the show. The Game of Thrones alum is out promoting her long-awaited film The New Mutants. Saturday Night Live fans will want to catch The Late Late Show on Tuesday, Aug. 25 when Corden chats with Maya Rudolph and Fred Armisen.
This week’s late-night TV schedule for NBC
The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon has been on a roll since it moved back to 30 Rock. Jimmy Fallon’s monologues have been especially strong and his political content has had a noticeable bite to it in recent weeks.
But fans hoping for more of the same this week are out of luck. The Tonight Show is off this week. NBC will air reruns of episodes featuring interviews with Blake Griffin, Cecily Strong, and Tiffany Haddish among others.
It’s the same story for Late Night with Seth Meyers. It too will be airing reruns this week as the show prepares to move from the Captain’s Quarters, aka Seth’s in-law’s, back to the studio. Fans can revisit interviews with Senator Kamala Harris, Billy Porter, and J.B. Smoove.
A week of reruns on A Little Late with Lilly Singh completes the NBC trifecta. It’s not exactly a surprise for fans as the show has been on hiatus since season one wrapped up back in May. This week, fans can rewatch Lilly Singh talk with Ewan McGregor, Ginnifer Goodwin, and Deepak Chopra.
This week’s schedule for the rest of late-night TV
The Daily Show with Trevor Noah is back this week. The Comedy Central show will no doubt be a go-to stop for late-night fans eager for reaction to the Republican National Convention. The show did some of its best work around the RNC in 2016.
On TBS, Conan will be taking one more week off. Fans can revisit his interviews with Don Chedle, Andy Samberg, and Patton Oswalt this week. Don’t forget that a new episode of “Conan O’Brien Needs a Friend” dropped on Monday, Aug. 24. And you can always find more Conan content on HBO Max.
Full Frontal with Samantha Bee will be new. Like The Daily Show, fans can expect some of the best RNC coverage anywhere in late-night on the TBS show this week.
