Michael Cohen has agreed to appear on Late Night with Seth Meyers

A tell-all book from Michael Cohen, President Donald Trump’s former persona attorney, was inevitable. And with that book comes the promotional tour. But what may be a surprise to some is that Cohen’s efforts to plug the memoir will bring him to Late Night with Seth Meyers.

Cohen tweeted, and Late Night confirmed, that he has agreed to an inclusive interview with Seth Meyers. No set date was announced but the pair will go one-on-one on Thursday, Sept. 10. Cohen’s book Disloyal is set to be published on Sep. 8.

So far, just a foreword has been released. In it, Cohen describes President Trump in much the same way Seth Meyers discusses the president on Late Night. Cohen calls his former boss “a cheat, a liar, a fraud, a bully, a racist, a predator, a con man.”

Michael Cohen’s interview will be a must-see episode of Late Night with Seth Meyers

The last two major books on President Donald Trump have been massive headline makers. Former National Security Advisor John Bolton and President Trump’s niece Mary Trump both authored books that do anything but flatter President Trump.

Both Bolton and Mary Trump found themselves on late-night television to promote their books. Both were guests on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, currently late-night’s leader when it comes to politics.

But Michael Cohen’s book may overshadow both given how long he has been in Donald Trump’s orbit. Cohen knows personal details about President Trump that few other people do and Cohen sounds ready to reveal what he knows.

Cohen being interviewed on Late Night as opposed to The Late Show is a major victory for Seth Meyers’s show. Of course, Meyers is no slouch when it comes to political coverage as he proves time and time again with “A Closer Look.”

However, The Late Show is the late-night ratings king and would be the most logical place for Cohen to go if he wanted to promote his book. Perhaps Late Night got to him first. PerhapsThe Late Show turned him down. Or maybe Cohen saw how brutal Stephen Colbert was with John Bolton and wanted no part of it. However it happened, Meyers benefits as even more eyes will be on Late Night come Sept. 10.
