Seth Meyers examined how President Donald Trump is trying to distract from the Democratic National Convention

The Democratic National Convention is the center of the American political world this week. But for Republican and noted attention-seeker President Donald Trump, this is something he cannot accept. Seth Meyers explained last night on Late Night with “A Closer Look.”

The biggest stars of the Democratic Party, including Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Senator Bernie Sanders, former First Lady Michelle Obama, and former President Barack Obama, have all delivered speeches during the 2020 Democratic National Convention. The virtual event has a very different vibe than past years but many have grabbed on to the party’s message of hope.

President Trump and his allies at Fox News have tried to paint a different picture to describe what life under a President Joe Biden would look like. The president has continued to hold press briefings, tweet inflammatory remarks, and make statements designed to both attack Vice President Biden and distract from his confirmation as the Democratic nominee for president.

It is the latest in a long line of desperate moves by President Trump and his friends, says Seth Meyers. “A Closer Look” exposed how the president is doing anything he can to take attention away from the DNC and keep it on himself.

Seth Meyers called out Trump’s campaign strategy of distractions, confusion, and division

Seth Meyers sees right through President Donald Trump’s Democratic National Convention counterprogramming. But the Late Night host isn’t all that worried about its effects when President Trump continues to say the things he says when in front of a microphone.

So while Democrats are making the case for how President Trump failed over the past four years, President Trump continues to warn against mail-in voting and election fraud. According to Meyers, it’s part of a disinformation campaign meant to confuse voters and cheat to win the election. It also comes as the Russia investigation is revived following a Senate report on connections between the 2016 Trump campaign and Russian intelligence officials.

And as always, President Trump has help from Fox News. Late Night with Seth Meyers rarely misses an opportunity to attack the network during “A Closer Look” and Wednesday night was no different.

Starting with the pandemic and continuing with Vice President Joe Biden’s poll numbers, there has been a sense of desperation coming from the White House. That is the argument “A Closer Look” has been making with nearly every segment. So while Meyers has warned about President Trump’s corruption, efforts to undermine the election, and possibility that he won’t concede if it comes to it, the Late Night host also sounds confident that the desperation is a sign that change is coming this November.
