Take a tour of Stephen Colbert’s makeshift Late Show studio
By Matt Moore
The Late Show with Stephen Colbert finally left home
It’s been a long road but on Monday, Stephen Colbert finally left home and returned to the Ed Sullivan Theater in New York City. Yet while the Late Show host was in familiar confines, the studio wasn’t quite what fans are used to seeing.
It was all the way back in March when cases of the novel coronavirus put New York City into a lockdown. Late-night shows like The Late Show, The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, and Late Night with Seth Meyers all aired from empty studios before eventually going home.
And while the country is by no means out of the woods when it comes to COVID-19, improvements have been made in some areas. It has allowed Jimmy Fallon to return to 30 Rock and on Monday, The Late Show returned to the Ed Sullivan Theater.
The Ed Sullivan Theater offices, that is. Colbert explained the distinction at the top of the show on Monday night before giving viewers a tour of his new setup for the foreseeable future.
Stephen Colbert brought an important part of his home life back to the studio
Here at Last Night On, we correctly predicted that Stephen Colbert would broadcast from his office. What we didn’t consider was The Late Show crew reconstruction Colbert’s office in a different office. But as you can see, the Captain American shield and Lord of the Rings books are there in Colbert’s makeshift studio.
News that Colbert would be leaving his home left some fans a little sad about what it meant for their favorite part of Stephen at home: Evie Colbert. The comedian’s wife, along with his children, acted as the crew for the remote episodes. She could often be heard off-camera laughing and occasionally was in front of the camera. The dynamic between Mr. and Mrs. Colbert delighted fans.
So those fans must have been very happy to hear Evie once again. Colbert noted that his wife has joined him on his return to the Late Show offices but admitted he doesn’t know how long it will last. Fans who thought they heard the last from Evie are no doubt happy to get any time from here on out.
What do you think of Stephen Colbert’s new studio? Are you glad that Evie has joined him? Share your thoughts in the comment section. Keep checking Last Night On for more from The Late Show and the rest of late-night television.
