The Tonight Show: Three guests to watch this week – July 27
By Matt Moore
Here are the guests to watch this week on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon
It’s Monday and that means the start of another week in late night television. And while several shows will be taking the week off, The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon will be all new and feature some must-see guests.
The Tonight Show became the first show to move back to a studio when Jimmy Fallon joined The Roots and a small crew back at Rockefeller Center. The move from Fallon’s house to 30 Rock is a positive sign for New York City and suggests things are slowly returning to normal.
Fallon continued to conduct his interviews remotely, however. It’s hard to say when guests will be able to sit in the same room as the Tonight Show host even if social distancing practices are put in place.
But like the other late night hosts, Fallon has become comfortable with these virtual conversations and they still remain an entertaining part of The Tonight Show. That trend is sure to continue this week when Fallon chats with some exciting guests. Keep reading for Last Night On’s picks for three guests to watch this week.
The Tonight Show guest to watch: Mike Tyson
Before he returns to the ring, Mike Tyson returns to The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. Catch the boxing legend on Monday, July 27.
Tyson recently starting turning heads with social media posts showing the 54-year-old in incredible shape. Buzz about a potential return to the ring was confirmed when Tyson announced an exhibition match against Roy Jones, Jr. The pay-per-view fight is set for Sept. 12. It will be Tyson’s first fight since 2005 when he lost to Kevin McBride.
Fans can expect Fallon to ask Tyson why he decided now was the right time to fight again and how long he’s been interested in a return. Tyson’s training regiment and preparation for Jones, Jr. could also be on the table.
Also, don’t be surprised if Fallon asks Tyson what he knows about the biopic on his life. Jamie Foxx is currently training to portray Tyson in a movie that has been in development for years. Fallon may be curious about how involved Tyson is in Foxx’s training or if Tyson has a role for himself in the film.
The Tonight Show guest to watch: Megan Rapinoe
Another world champion athlete comes to The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon this week. Fans can see soccer icon Megan Rapinoe on Tuesday, July 28.
Rapinoe became a household name when she helped the U.S. Women’s National Team win the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup. In addition to sharing the Golden Boot award for the most goals in the tournament, Rapinoe was given the Golden Ball honor as the best player. It was Rapinoe’s second World Cup victory (2015) to go along with her 2012 Olympic Gold Medal.
Off the field, Rapinoe is a noted activist. She joined in Colin Kaepernick’s protest, has worked with the Gay, Lesbian and Straight Education Network, and fought for equal pay for members of the USWNT.
On The Tonight Show, Fallon will likely ask Rapinoe how she has been staying busy during the past few months. Rapinoe opted out of the National Women’s Soccer League’s return to play but was courtside for girlfriend Sue Bird’s first game back in the WNBA.
Rapinoe will get a chance to promote Seeing America with Megan Rapinoe, a new documentary coming Aug. 1 to HBO. Rapinoe will examine social justice and how to make changes while in conversation with Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Hasan Minhaj, and Nikhole Hannah-Jones.
Rapinoe’s activism could also be a topic of conversation. She has been involved in former First Lady Michelle Obama’s When We All Vote organization which is gearing up for a voter registration push. Rapinoe always makes for a good interview and the soccer star is always worth listening to when she has something to say.
The Tonight Show guest to watch: Seth Rogen
Close out your week watching The Tonight Show with Seth Rogen. The comedian talks with Jimmy Fallon on Thursday, July 30.
Rogen’s next release is An American Pickle coming to HBO Max on Aug. 6. As the streaming service’s first original movie, the comedy-drama is sure to get a lot of attention.
As you can see by the trailer above, Rogen pulls double duty as both Herschel and Ben Greenbaum. The movie is based on the short story Sell Out by former Saturday Night Live writer Simon Rich.
Rogen is sure to discuss what appealed to him about An American Pickle and what it was like to film both parts. The actor also may want to plug The Boys, the Amazon Prime series on which he is an executive producer. That show is set to start airing season two on Sept. 4. On a personal level, Rogen has shown off his pottery hobby he’s been honing while in quarantine. Fallon may ask for an update on how Rogen is keeping himself occupied.
