Here’s what to expect tonight for Last Week Tonight with John Oliver fans

There is one more day left in the weekend and that means there is one more show left on the late night television schedule. So what should Last Week Tonight with John Oliver fans expect to see tonight on HBO?

July is always a hit-or-miss month when it comes to new episodes of late night shows. Even during a pandemic, vacations and days off are on the schedule. So for every new episode of The Late Show with Stephen Colbert or The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, there is a repeat for Real Time with Bill Maher or The Late Late Show with James Corden.

Often, HBO’s late night duo of Bill Maher and John Oliver have been on similar schedules. So does the fact that Real Time remained on hiatus this week mean the same is in store for Last Week Tonight?

Good news, fans: there will be a brand new episode of Last Week Tonight with John Oliver tonight. Season seven, episode 19 is set to air tonight at 11:00 PM ET on HBO.

What will be the main story on Last Week Tonight with John Oliver?

Predicting what will be the main story on an episode of Last Week Tonight is never easy. Fans never know when they are going to get a 20-minute segment dedicated to the president of Turkmenistan or the rise in robocalls.

However, the novel coronavirus pandemic has been impossible for John Oliver to ignore. He’s dedicated ten segments to COVID-19 so far in season seven.

Ten segments mean that Oliver has approached the topic from almost every angle imaginable. If he presents “Coronavirus XI” tonight, there are still a few ways he could do it.

Perhaps Oliver will examine the “tone change” from President Donald Trump who now endorses the use of masks. The Senate stimulus bill could also be up for discussion as lawmakers attempt to provide financial relief to millions of Americans. Or maybe Oliver will dive into what the potential risks with students returning to classrooms this fall.

If Last Week Tonight decides to pivot away from the pandemic this week, there is one major story fans are likely eager to hear Oliver cover. The protests in Portland, Oregon and the use of federal agents to police the city has been a hot-button issue this week. Could tonight be the night that Oliver gives his take?
