Jimmy Kimmel Live’s best guest monologues
Hosting a late night television show is harder than it looks. This is even true for seasoned performers used to being in the spotlight. But staring down the barrel of the camera and delivering jokes isn’t the same as acting in a movie or singing on stage.
The opening monologue is the best way to tell how nervous or confident the guest host is feeling. And some of Jimmy Kimmel Live!‘s best guest monologues have come from hosts you wouldn’t necessarily expect.
Brie Larson may have taken some fans by surprise when she guest hosted back in Dec. 2019. The Captain Marvel and Avengers: Endgame star capped off an impressive year by once again proving her versatility. Late night comedians had a lot of fun at the expense of Cats and Larson delivered punchlines as well as any of them.
Mayor Pete Buttigieg was another surprising guest host. He took over Jimmy Kimmel Live! in March after dropping out of the race for president. His performance was made even more impressive due to the fact that it came at the start of the novel coronavirus outbreak. Buttigieg hosted the show in a nearly empty studio but still managed to win over fans at home.
Ideally, Buttigieg would be the subject of Jimmy Kimmel’s monologue jokes as the president. But instead he settled for delivering a few punchlines at the expense of the current president and himself.
