Sarah Cooper on the inspiration behind her TikTok Trump videos
By Matt Moore
Social media star Sarah Cooper talked about her process with Jimmy Fallon
Chances are that you have seen some of Sarah Cooper’s work by now. The comedian has been all over social media for the past few months thanks to her TikTok videos lip-synching to President Donald Trump. Cooper got the chance to share the inspiration behind her success as a guest on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.
Cooper is a stand-up comedian author of two best-selling books: How to Be Successful Without Hurting Men’s Feelings and 100 Tricks to Appear Smart in Meetings. Prior to doing comedy full-time, Cooper worked for Google and Yahoo.
It was that experience in the tech industry that helped Cooper develop her wildly popular videos. Across TikTok, Twitter, and Instagram, she has racked up millions and millions of views by mouthing along to President Trump’s ramblings on the pandemic. Cooper has been praised by comedy stars like Jerry Seinfeld, Patton Oswalt, and Ben Stiller.
Jimmy Fallon is also among Cooper’s fans. He told her as much during their Tonight Show interview before Cooper discussed the inspiration behind the videos.
Sarah Cooper also debuted a new video on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon
Late night hosts like Jimmy Fallon, Seth Meyers, and others have long been mocking President Trump’s stream-of-consciousness style of speaking. And to varying degrees, they have questioned his competence and intelligence. Cooper’s videos perfectly encapsulate what late night has been saying and the comedian can do it using the president’s own, uncut words against him.
Cooper also admitted to Fallon that she is a little jealous of personality types like President Trump and people she encountered in the tech world. The ability to B.S. your way through a meeting and convince a room full of people that you’re innovative and smart is no easy task. Clearly Donald Trump has figured this out and it landed him in the White House.
Whether it is Alec Baldwin on Saturday Night Live or Fallon on The Tonight Show, everyone who does a Trump impression tries to find a way “in” to their version. Cooper’s take is unique because of her inspiration and how she doesn’t overplay it. The formula clearly works based on how many people watch and share every video.
The Tonight Show gave Cooper the chance to debut a brand new video. She took on one of the president’s more bizarre rants and once again crushed it:
You can be sure that we haven’t seen the last of Sarah Cooper on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon or any other late night show. She is clearly too talented not to be back as a guest or performer so stay tuned.
