Season 18 of Real Time with Bill Maher continues tonight on HBO

The headlines that dominated last week’s news cycle continued this week. Still, there is plenty more to be said about America’s political and social issues. Real Time with Bill Maher looks to continue the conversation with tonight’s guest lineup.

Last week, Bill Maher reacted to the ongoing protests for racial equality, the latest pandemic statistics, and the struggling economy. He questioned if America was great yet, mocking President Donald Trump’s slogan.

That slogan will be dusted off next week as the president restarts his rallies across the country. The first is scheduled for June 19 in Tulsa, Oklahoma–a decision that was immediately met with criticism over its insensitivity given the importance of both the date and location.

The president’s rallies and the continued protests are just two of the topics likely to come up on tonight’s episode of Real Time with Bill Maher. Here is a complete breakdown of tonight’s guest and what else fans can expect to see.

Tonight’s Real Time with Bill Maher interview guests

Tonight, Bill Maher will interview one returning guest and one making his Real Time debut. Each interview will cover the two biggest stories of the week.

First, Maher will hold a virtual interview with Radley Balko. The Washington Post journalist and author was last seen on the show in 2013.

Balko is the author of 2018’s The Cadaver King and the Country Dentist: A True Story of Injustice in the American South and 2013’s Rise of the Warrior Cop: The Militarization of America’s Police Forces. With Maher, Balko should comment on race relations, police brutality, and what changes should/can come from the protests.

Next, Maher is set to talk with Dr. Dariush Mozaffarian. The cardiologist and pubic health expert is making his first Real Time appearance.

Dr. Mozaffarian is the  Dean of the Friedman School of Nutrition Science and Policy at Tufts University. Fans can expect him to discuss COVID-19 and its relation to food habits and public health concerns like diabetes and obesity in America.

Tonight’s Real Time with Bill Maher panel

The panel tonight features two guests who have appeared on the show in the past. Fans should expect an insightful conversation on social justice and government policy.

Comedian, writer, and former late night television host Larry Wilmore is on tonight. He can currently be heard as the host of his podcast “Black on the Air.” He should have plenty to say about systemic racism in America and the concrete steps necessary to bring about change.

Author and pundit Matt Welch is also on the panel. He is an editor with Reason magazine as well as host of the podcasts “The Reason Roundtable” and “The Fifth Column.” Welch is an advocate for more Libertarian politics in the U.S. and may offer his explanation of how to address several of the issues facing America today.
