Jimmy Kimmel had a lot to say about those not wearing masks or adhering to social distancing guidelines.
Memorial Day weekend is typically the unofficial start of summer. And while the past few months have been anything but typical, that didn’t stop thousands of people from gathering together across the country despite the ongoing pandemic. It sparked a heated debate and garnered strong reactions like the one from Jimmy Kimmel.
Images went viral of a pool party at a crowded bar in the Lake of the Ozarks. The scene in Missouri was celebrated by those convinced things can get back to normal and it was criticized by those still preaching caution when it comes to social gatherings.
Medical experts still recommend that masks be worn in public and people practice social distancing when in public. However, President Donald Trump has been sending a mixed message by choosing not to wear a mask and spend his time playing golf.
During his monologue on Tuesday night, Jimmy Kimmel blamed the example set by President Trump for the behavior of so many Americans. The ABC late night host was harsh in his reaction to the Ozarks pool party, beachgoers in Alabama, and more. See for yourself:
Jimmy Kimmel called those refusing to wear a mask “selfish.”
Kimmel can’t quite wrap his head around why anyone would refuse to wear a mask or keep away from crowds during the pandemic. Everyone wants things to get back to normal and be able to enjoy the beach, bars, and anything else. But to do so, Kimmel preaches a level of patience that doesn’t compute with some people.
“Selfish” is just one of the ways Kimmel describes the people his show featured in those news clips. The comedian doesn’t hold back in a way that he usually reserves for his ridicule of the president. Here Kimmel turns that onto those who claim they are just following President Trump’s example, leaving it up to a higher power, or have accepted whatever fate has in store.
Kimmel isn’t playing around when it comes to this topic. His reaction is closer to a rant than punchlines. He’s right to say that wearing a mask has now become political and the late night host is reacting accordingly. With signs indicating that Jimmy Kimmel Live! is only preparing to become more political, the host is not filtering himself.
