Saturday Night Live season 45’s best cameos – 1. Brad Pitt

Season 45 of Saturday Night Live made history when the pandemic forced the show to air three remote episodes. While Tom Hanks delivered an inspirational monologue in the first show as the surprise host, it was Brad Pitt’s cameo that made the most headlines.

Pitt and Saturday Night Live helped make Dr. Anthony Fauci’s dreams come true. The head of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases suggested that Pitt portray him on SNL. The show did just that by having the Oscar-winner play Dr. Fauci in the April 25 cold open.

It was surprising to see SNL follow through on Dr. Fauci’s self-fancast especially considering Pitt had never appeared on SNL before. But one advantage of the remote episodes was the ability to get any willing participant to join in on the fun.

Pitt’s performance imagined what Dr. Fauci would say without restriction or worry about angering President Trump. Considering how much the president wants to be the star of the show, it had to sting a little extra to see Pitt portraying Dr. Fauci in such a positive way.

Pitt capped off his memorable cameo by delivering a heartfelt message to the real Dr. Fauci and medical professionals. It was a perfect cold open, played perfectly by Pitt and that’s why it was the best of season 45.
