Saturday Night Live season 45’s best cameos – 5. Jason Momoa

Jason Momoa fulfilled a lifelong dream when he hosted Saturday Night Live in season 44. Clearly the Aquaman star made a strong impression on everyone at the show because he was invited back for a special appearance during Chance the Rapper’s turn as host.

Between his roles as Aquaman and Khal Drogo on Game of Thrones, Momoa has built up a pretty strong fanbase. The response from the live studio audience backs that up as soon as Momoa came through the doors opposite Kate McKinnon.

Momoa’s surprise appearance was also enough to get Chance to break character a bit. He was already struggling to hold it together as Judge Barry and Momoa’s wardrobe and tone were ultimately too much to handle.

Momoa also had a little trouble, fumbling over a line but recovering in time for his big reveal at the end. For a sketch that escalated in absurdity, Momoa’s surprise cameo helped push things over the top and make “Judge Barry” one of the night’s best.

If (or more likely when) Chance the Rapper returns to host Saturday Night Live, don’t be surprised to see him play Judge Barry again. Jason Momoa ensured that the bar has been set pretty high for casting defendants.
