Who’s on Real Time with Bill Maher tonight, May 22?
By Matt Moore
Season 18 of Real Time with Bill Maher continues tonight with another compelling guest lineup.
If you missed Real Time with Bill Maher last week, have no fear. The HBO late night show is back and once again has a guest lineup that should have fans talking.
Real Time took last week off but should pick up right where it left off. While filming episodes in his back yard, host Bill Maher has found himself making headlines week after week. And while some longtime Real Time fans are finding it a bit harder to agree with Maher, there is no denying that the comedian/host has been at the center of every debate.
Tonight’s guest lineup ensures that this will continue tonight. It features two returning guests and one making her Real Time with Bill Maher debut.
Thomas Friedman
Thomas Friedman is set to be the first guest of the night. It will be his seventh time on the show and first since 2016.
Friedman is a New York Times columnist and three-time winner of the Pulitzer Prize. His work primarily focuses on environmental issues and foreign affairs.
His recent column examined the environmental factors that have contributed to the pandemic. He also questioned the wisdom behind President Donald Trump ignoring environmental issues. This echoes a similar point made by Bill Maher earlier this season. Expect the two to further explore this topic during their interview.
Dr. Cate Shanahan
The next guest will be a first-time visitor to Maher’s show. Dr. Cate Shannahan makes her Real Time debut tonight.
Dr. Shanahan is a family physician and expert on nutrition. In March she published the bestseller The Fatburn Fix: Boost Energy, End Hunger, and Lose Weight by Using Body Fat for Fuel.
It’s likely that Maher will ask Dr. Shanahan about how food habits and diets can improve public health in relation to the pandemic. Maher has never been shy about criticizing unhealthy lifestyles. It should make for an interesting discussion with Dr. Shanahan.
Michael Moore
The guest lineup concludes with a familiar face to Real Time viewers. Documentary filmmaker Michael Moore returns to the show.
Moore currently shares his opinions on his podcast “Rumble with Michael Moore.” The most recent episode looked at how Senator Bernie Sanders and his supports can help former Vice President Joe Biden connect with more voters ahead of the Nov. election.
Maher and Moore will likely touch on the election as well as the pandemic. Moore is likely to give his thoughts on the environmental aspects of the crisis, continuing the theme from the Thomas Friedman interview.
