Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert reunited to promote Stewart’s new film Irresistible.

The impeachment trial undoubtedly has some comedy fans longing to hear from Jon Stewart. So when the former Daily Show host popped up on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, it was easy to think he was there to break down the trial. Instead, Stewart unveiled a sneak peek at his latest project.

Stewart has made a handful of Late Show appearances, often coming out from underneath Stephen Colbert’s desk. Most recently, Stewart showed up to call out Senator Mitch McConnell during the comedian’s efforts to reauthorize a bill supporting 9/11 first responders.

So with the impeachment trial in full swing and The Late Show providing wall to wall coverage, another Jon Stewart cameo felt like a natural and welcomed surprise. But being the old television pros that they are, Stewart and Colbert quickly dropped the facade and admitted they were in a pretaped segment from Jan. 16.

Stewart was not there to discuss President Trump’s impeachment but rather to plug his latest project. Stewart debuted the trailer for Irresistible, a film he wrote and directed starring his former Daily Show correspondent Steve Carell.

Irresistible will be the second motion picture that Stewart has written and directed. His debut was Rosewater, a 2014 political drama starring Gael Garcia Bernal and Claire Foy. The movie received mostly positive reviews and Stewart was applauded for his efforts.

Stewart’s second movie looks to be a bit more of what audiences would expect from the longtime Daily Show host. Putting Stewart and Carell together is a surefire way to get fans excited and will no doubt make promotion for the movie even more entertaining.

The rest of the cast, including Rose Byrne, Chris Cooper, and Mackenzie Davis, also ensures that Irresistible will have an audience even outside those eager for more of Jon Stewart’s sense of political humor.
