Late Night with Seth Meyers used A Closer Look to cover the latest on the articles of impeachment and the latest on Rudy Giuliani.

The House has sent articles of impeachment to the Senate, adding another chapter to the story of President Donald Trump’s tenure. But before the ink was even dry on that story, another one broke involving Rudy Giuliani and his associate Lev Parnas. Late Night with Seth Meyers was on top of it all in “A Closer Look.”

After a delay, Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi finally sent articles of impeachment to the Senate where President Trump’s trial will be held. It was an historic day in U.S. political history and contributed to President Trump’s legacy regardless of the outcome.

Meanwhile, President Trump was holding a rally in Wisconsin. The rallies seem to always coincide with negative press or the outbreak of another scandal. That could be planned or it could just be that so much happens at the White House, it’s impossible to avoid such timing.

And while the media and public would have been happy to discuss the significance of the articles going to the Senate, news wasn’t done breaking. It was revealed that Lev Parnas, an associate of President Trump’s lawyer Rudy Giuliani, supplied evidence that former U.S. ambassador to Ukraine Marie Yovanovitch was under surveillance.

If keeping up with all the twists, turns, and characters is making your head spin then don’t worry. Late Night with Seth Meyers continues to break down the headlines better than anyone in late night through “A Closer Look.”

Former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani was the unquestioned star of “A Closer Look” in 2019. Other than President Trump, nobody gave the Late Night writers more material than Giuliani. Between his television appearances, interviews, and tweets, Giuliani was constantly putting his foot in his mouth or demonstrating the bizarre behavior that makes for “A Closer Look” gold.

Giuliani introduced Late Night, and the world, to Lev Parnas. The Ukrainian was an associate of Giuliani and arrested  for violating campaign finance laws. Now it appears that Parnas is cooperating with authorities and has some headline-grabbing information to share.

Meyers shows out President Trump’s efforts to distract from impeachment were indirectly derailed by Rudy Giuliani. The Late Night host reminds viewers that Lev Parnas and Igor Fruman were working for President Trump. Then Meyers recaps documents demonstrating Giuliani and Parnas working on Ukrainian interference in the 2020 election.

As if that wasn’t enough, Meyers then gets to the text messages indicating that Parnas was monitoring Ambassador Marie Yovanovitch with the help of Trump supporter Robert Hyde. The news was a bit unsettling to some and Meyers acknowledges the severity while also adding in the right amount of humor. In other words, it was another example of “A Closer Look” at its best.

Seth Meyers reassures viewers that Rudy Giuliani, Lev Parnas and others like them probably won’t get away with their crimes. Unlike the criminals we see on television, this crowd didn’t exactly try to be covert or inconspicuous. And no matter what, they’ll always have a place in “A Closer Look.”
