1. Trump Has Impeachment Meltdown on Fox and Friends

Nov. 25, 2019

The best edition of “A Closer Look” has it all: President Trump having a meltdown, impeachment reaching a tipping point, and Fox News struggling to stay aligned with the White House. We can only imagine what it was like in the Late Night writers’ room after this interview aired.

We’ve already seen how Meyers treated Republicans during the Ukraine scandal. Now we get to see the Late Night host turn his attention to Fox News. The media outlet has become even more of a villain to some during President Trump’s time in office. And President Trump’s favorite show has to be Fox and Friends.

So with that in mind, it was even more special to hear President Trump meltdown in real time on air with the Fox personalities. It was 53 minute long interview on Fox and Friends that gave “A Closer Look” about twice as much material to dissect.

Meyers uses the interview to mock President Trump’s mental capacity. Fans can also be sure that Meyers enjoyed the embarrassment on the part of Fox News as even the network tried and failed to get President Trump off the line.

From there, Meyers turned back to Republicans and efforts to legitimize the conspiracy theory that Ukraine interfered in the 2016 election. Meyers, likes many others, painted this as the last ditch effort of the GOP to find some way to defend President Trump’s actions. But as “A Closer Look” pointed out, it only dug a deeper hole and further soiled the reputation of many Republicans.

It’s easy to see why when you watch Seth Meyers deliver punchline after punchline while also adding is poignant commentary. We have to imagine that President Trump has another meltdown or two in store in 2020 which only means “A Closer Look” will have plenty to cover.
