5. Rudy Giuliani Associates Arrested

Oct. 10, 2019

Few people could have predicted that former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani would be a central figure in the impeachment of a president in 2019. But that’s exactly what happened when President Donald Trump hired Giuliani as his personal lawyer and Giuliani went chasing dirt in Ukraine.

By the end of the year, it was clear that there was no escaping the wrath of “A Closer Look” for Giuliani. His cable news appearances, interviews, and tweets led to one head-scratching moment after another that were all ripe for mockery by Seth Meyers.

In this segment from Oct. Meyers covers the news that two of Giuliani’s associates, Lev Parnas and Igor Fruman, were arrested for violating campaign finance laws. Both are Ukrainian, leading to more twists and turns in the ongoing Ukraine scandal.

We hear Meyers compare Giuliani to a vampire, something that was a common theme when the Late Night host was roasting the former NYC mayor. Meyers also looks back at some of the attorney’s greatest moments on television that would become some of the greatest moments in “A Closer Look” this year.

Meyers sums up Giuliani as “an insane old man who goes on TV and waves around printouts from conspiracy websites.” Every comedian in late night had something to say about Giuliani in 2019 but nobody hit the nail on the head quite like Late Night and “A Closer Look.”
