Stephen Colbert covered the articles of impeachment drafted against President Donald Trump.

The day that Stephen Colbert has long predicted has finally arrived: the House of Representatives unveiled articles of impeachment against President Donald Trump. And for the Late Show host, the evidence of President Trump’s misconduct is undeniable.

The disarray and scandals of President Trump’s White House have only boosted The Late Show with Stephen Colbert to the top of late night. The CBS show has become the go-to source for comedy in the Trump era. That era now looks to be in jeopardy.

Fans of The Late Show know that Colbert thought this outcome was likely to come following the release of the Mueller report. But the comedian has also learned that the Trump administration is the gift that keeps on giving and another controversy was just a phone call away.

The alleged quid pro quo involving Ukraine has led to two articles of impeachment against President Trump. On Tuesday night, Colbert explained why the evidence of President Trump’s high crimes and misdemeanors are overwhelming.

Stephen Colbert has never needed much encouragement to go after President Trump. Yet it is hard not to notice an extra level of confidence coming from the comedian in this monologue. In quick succession, Colbert fires off jokes about Trump’s intelligence, reputation, and marriage. Clearly Colbert doesn’t believe in not kicking a man when he is down.

The statement from Democratic leaders on the “overwhelming and uncontested” evidence against President Trump is supported by Colbert. The Late Show has made a point in recent weeks to remind viewers that no cohesive argument has been made in rebuttal to allegations that President Trump asked Ukraine to launch an investigation that would hurt his political rival former Vice President Joe Biden.
