The Late Show with Stephen Colbert going international

Stephen Colbert made a huge splash in the late night world when he took over The Late Show. His sense of humor and direction or the show aligned perfectly with the infusion of political humor we discussed earlier. It’s part of the reason The Late Show with Stephen Colbert routinely challenges and tops The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon in the ratings.

Colbert’s impeachment inquiry coverage has been the best in late night. His monologues are by far the most popular among late nights thankful to hear from someone willing to call out the President, Democratic candidates for president, and anyone else Colbert deems worth of mockery.

Recently, The Late Show was taken to a new level. Or, perhaps more appropriately, a new location. Colbert capped of a week of footage showcasing his recent journey to New Zealand where he interviewed Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern, learned rugby from the All Blacks, and toured the breathtaking landscape.

A trip to New Zealand also gave Colbert the chance to reconnect with his true passion: the fantasy world of J.R.R. Tolkien. Colbert has made no effort to hide his Hobbit and Lord of the Rings superfan status.

Fans should be thankful that Colbert took his show on the road and came back with material not seen on The Late Show in some time. Perhaps inspired by Conan O’Brien’s success abroad, Colbert was able to improv with locals and show off more of his own personality. The comedian reminded audiences that he doesn’t need to rely on President Donald Trump to make millions of fans laugh.

Late night fans are thankful that Stephen Colbert keeps everyone in check here at home. But the more The Late Show travels around the world, the more fans can appreciate Colbert.
