Frozen 2 is taking over Jimmy Kimmel Live
By Matt Moore
The cast from Disney’s highly anticipated Frozen 2 comes to Jimmy Kimmel Live! later this week.
Frozen 2 arrives in theaters on Nov. 22. Before that, the cast behind what will surely be one of the biggest films of the year comes to Jimmy Kimmel Live!.
On Thursday, Nov. 7, Jimmy Kimmel will sit down with Kristen Bell, Idina Menzel, Josh Gad, and Jonathan Groff. They may be better known to Frozen fan as Anna, Elsa, Olaf, and Kristoff.
A sequel to 2013’s Frozen was guaranteed almost immediately following the film’s release. Critics and audiences both loved the movie which went on to earn $1.26 billion at the box office. Bringing back the cast and the characters was a no-brainer.
Jimmy Kimmel Live! continues to benefit from Disney as ABC’s parent company. The late night show has frequently held these type of full-cast interview/event episodes to promote projects from Disney’s collection of brands and franchises.
Kimmel’s late night show has become home for the Marvel Cinematic Universe with multiple interviews featuring the cast from Avengers: Endgame and Spider-Man: Far From Home. The show has done the same for Star Wars: The Last Jedi and will surely to it again for Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker later this year.
And while Disney owns the Marvel and Star Wars franchises, has recently added 21st Century Fox to its company, and is set to launch the streaming service Disney+, it is the company’s animated films that remain its signature.
Frozen 2 will continue that and stopping by Jimmy Kimmel Live! will be another step in building hype for the movie. Star Kristen Bell is friends with Kimmel as well as being a frequent guest and guest-host. Bell will be right at home on the late night show especially joined by Menzel, Gad, and Groff.
Only Conan O’Brien has rivaled Jimmy Kimmel when it comes to late night hosts welcoming entire casts on the show. While O’Brien did interview a handful of Avengers at once, it has been for Warner Bros. movies like Aquaman, Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice, and It: Chapter 2 that O’Brien has helped promote. He’s also done it with television series like Breaking Bad and Game of Thrones.
It requires a pretty big project to warrant these kind of cast interviews. That also means the projects don’t need much help from late night shows. Frozen 2 and Star Wars will do just fine without Jimmy Kimmel Live!. But at the same time, it is the popularity of stars like Kristen Bell that make fans support these movies. So expect Kimmel to continue to benefit from Disney sending its biggest names to ABC’s late night show.
