HBO’s Barry is taking over Lights Out with David Spade
By Matt Moore
The cast of HBO’s Barry will lead the panel on Monday night’s episode of Lights Out with David Spade.
Comedy worlds will be colliding tonight on the set of late night’s newest show. Lights Out with David Spade will welcome Bill Hader, Henry Winkler, and D’Arcy Carden from the comedy/drama series Barry.
Lights Out with David Spade is about a month in to it’s late night life on Comedy Central. So far the panel has featured some big name comedians like Dana Carvey and Whitney Cummings as well as giving the spotlight to some lesser known names.
Tonight’s episode, however, will feature three very big names all featured on Barry. The star and creator of the series Bill Hader will be joined by co-stars Henry Winkler and D’Arcy Carden in what should be a big night for Lights Out.
Hader and Spade share Saturday Night Live alumni status. Spade and Winkler both appeared in the Adam Sandler movie Sandy Wexler. Carden and Spade have not worked together, but Carden is one of the funniest people on television as proven by Barry and her role as Janet on The Good Place.
Bill Hader is of course the main draw here. He already established himself as one of the best guests in all of late night. He’s even better when talking about his Saturday Night Live time which surely will be brought up by Spade at some point.
The format of Lights Out will only let Hader shine even more. He won’t be the subject of a straight ahead interview but instead will be commenting on whatever story Spade brings up along with Winkler and Carden. As a fan of Spade’s era on Saturday Night Live, Hader is likely looking forward to sitting in on the panel.
Anytime more attention can be put on D’Arcy Carden, the better. She was absolutely snubbed by the Emmy’s this year for her work on The Good Place. She is great on Barry and anyone who has seen her in interiews or heard her on a podcast knows how funny Carden can be.
Henry Winkler has been active in the entertainment industry since the early ’70s so he should have more stories than anyone. It will be fun to see how he keeps up with comedians like Spade, Hader, and Carden. But at this point, nobody should be surprised at anything Winkler can do.
Lights Out with David Spade airs tonight at 11:30 PM ET on Comedy Central. Season two of Barry ended back in May but episodes are still available to stream via HBO.
