Stephen Colbert reacts to President Donald Trump sharing a video linking President Bill Clinton to Jeffrey Epstein’s death.

It happened once again: Stephen Colbert was shocked by something done by President Donald Trump. Even after covering every speech and every tweet, Colbert couldn’t believe what Trump did over the weekend.

Following the apparent suicide of Jeffrey Epstein, who is facing sex trafficking charges, President Trump retweeted a video promoting a conspiracy theory that President Bill Clinton and Hillary Clinton had Epstein murdered. It is an unfounded claim and the video came from a noted conspiracy theorist. Still, the president of the United States boosted the views by sharing it on his official Twitter page.

Most reasonable people would say it is best to let investigators look in to how exactly Epstein was able to commit suicide and not spread conspiracies that target political enemies. But as Stephen Colbert knows, reason isn’t always on display at the White House.

It wasn’t that long ago that Colbert sounded the most shocked he’d ever been when it comes to President Trump. But in less than a month, the Late Show host once again had to admit that he was taken off guard by Trump retweeting a conspiracy theory that claims a former president had someone killed in a federal prison.

Colbert connects the tweet to Trump’s other questionable behavior lately. The country is still trying to heal from two mass shootings but that didn’t stop Trump from sharing a video that could further divide people and incite vitriol. Colbert suggests that Trump is still lashing out for not receiving enough praise for visiting Dayton and El Paso.

Any chance of Trump striking a more empathetic tone, like some aides have encouraged, is unlikely. Colbert shows that Trump only has one pose: a big grin and a thumbs up. It doesn’t matter if you’re a dictator, victim of a tragedy, or a taco bowl because that’s the response you’ll get from the president.

The conspiracy theory tweet is still up on President Trump’s feed. In the two days since he retweeted it, Trump has added 30 more tweets on top of it so that may be his way of trying to bury it without admitting he should delete it. Regardless, Stephen Colbert and many others remain shocked.
