8. College Admissions

Sandra Oh stars in “College Admissions,” a sketch that was cut for time from the March 30, 2019 episode. Fans may not have seen it live but that doesn’t take away from the fact it was one of the best sketches of the season.

We’ve looked back at other cut for time sketches from this season. Most came from Kyle Mooney and Beck Bennett or were pre-recorded. But here we get one that tackled a major story at the time regarding celebrities using bribes to get their children in to colleges.

The topic was addressed in the cold open of a later episode. However this sketch took on the story headfirst. It allowed Saturday Night Live to mock a major news story that for once didn’t involve President Donald Trump, the Mueller investigation, or anything else going on in Washington, D.C.

The sketch escalates with more and more obscure references to minor celebrities and out-of-the-box companies. Kenan Thompson was on top of his game in this one. That isn’t much of a surprise given Thompson’s run at SNL. Still, it shows why Thompson has decided that he isn’t going anywhere and will be back for season 45.
