9. Romano Tours

One of the highest rated Saturday Night Live episodes of this season came when Adam Sandler hosted. He returned on May 4, 2019 and left fans wishing he had come back to host sooner.

His monologue featured some help from friend Chris Rock. He brought Opera Man back to “Weekend Update.” And Sandler closed out the show with a musical tribute to his friend and SNL legend, the late Chris Farley.

Sandler’s sketches proved that he was wrong to think time had past him by and he could no longer keep up with Saturday Night Live. The best bit of the night was “Romano Tours” which felt very much like the type of comedy Sandler helped bring to the show in the early 1990s.

The sketch gets its inspiration from commercials for Perillo Tours that helped guide tourists through Italy. But in Sandler’s version, he is adamant about reminding viewers that traveling to another country won’t change who they are inside. If you’re depressed and an angry drunk at home, chances are you’ll be that way in Italy.

Millions of people enjoyed this sketch not only for Sandler’s work but also because the message hit close to home for so many. It is not often that you can find genuine life advice from a Saturday Night Live sketch but that is exactly the case with “Romano Tours.”
