George Clooney took time from Jimmy Kimmel Live! to deliver a message against ignorance in a way only he could.

Anytime a major celebrity gets involved with an initiative, organization, or brand, it can attract a lot of attention. Nobody in Hollywood attracts more attention than George Clooney so he’s using that star power to raise awareness for a very specific cause.

Chances are you’re very familiar with the spread of disinformation online and through social media in particular. Topics like climate change, vaccinations, and alternative energy have all been challenged without much scientific evidence to back up the claims.

If you’re among those frustrated with the denial of science and the acceptance of more suspect ideas, then George Clooney has the answers. While on Jimmy Kimmel Live! he delivered perhaps the most relevant public service announcement for 2019:

While his wife Amal Clooney is working to free imprisoned journalists, George Clooney is out working to combat “knuckle-draggers” and “dumb [expletive] idiots.” Different battles, sure, but both are trying to make the world a better place.

There is no denying that late night shows have become more political especially over the past five years. Much of the content from these shows has been in direct response to the so-called “dumbfu–kery” mentioned by Clooney.

President Donald Trump’s comments on windmill noises causing cancer got a closer look from Seth Meyers. Jimmy Kimmel has talked about climate change deniers. And John Oliver has taken on the anti-vaxxers.

All of that commentary has led to criticism of late night shows. So perhaps by having the same message delivered by Hollywood icon George Clooney instead of say, Jimmy Kimmel himself, will help get the word out.

Jimmy Kimmel is certainly a fan of these mock PSAs but he still has an important message behind it. Having George Clooney on board will definitely help “UDUMASS” get more attention on the issue. And for an extra laugh, be sure to give that 1-800 number a ring.
