Saturday Night Live: The best of Adam Sandler
By Matt Moore
Revisit Adam Sandler’s best sketches on Saturday Night Live ahead of his return as host.
Fans have waited a long, long time but the day has finally arrived. This week Adam Sandler will host Saturday Night Live for the first time, 24 years after he left the show as a cast member.
Sandler has stated that NBC fired him, along with Chris Farley, from Saturday Night Live in 1995. And while Sandler was never too eager to host the show, he clearly was still on good terms with Lorne Michaels and others at SNL. He occasionally popped up for a cameo and helped with a digital short for the show’s 40th anniversary special.
But now Adam Sandler has decided that 2019 is the right time for him to be back in the Saturday Night Live spotlight. He recently returned to doing more standup shows which may have helped convince him that he could still perform live comedy at a high level. And while standup and sketch comedy are two different things, Sandler has been around long enough to know what he’s getting himself into this weekend.
Sandler will be the third host this season who was previously employed in Studio 8H. Former cast member and head writer Seth Meyers hosted back in October. In March, former writer John Mulaney hosted for the second time.
While Meyers and Mulaney were very successful at SNL, neither of them were performers quite like Adam Sandler. If you need a reminder, check out some of these classic sketches featuring Sandler.
