Game of Thrones sketches from Saturday Night Live to get you ready for tonight
By Matt Moore
Celebrate the return of Game of Thrones with the best Saturday Night Live sketches inspired by the show.
The long wait is finally over. Game of Thrones returns for its eighth and final season tonight. So before you start the intense journey to find out who will sit on the Iron Throne, let Saturday Night Live keep things a little lighter.
Saturday Night Live has always specialized in parodying and spoofing pop culture. And while it has been the show’s political humor that has received the most attention in the past few years, SNL can still deliver when it comes to making fun of America’s favorite movies and shows.
Game of Thrones makes for perfect comedy material in SNL’s world. With millions of fans around the world, the audience for GoT humor is even bigger than the one eager to laugh at President Trump. Add in the dragons, the dozens of characters, the sex and violence, and George R.R. Martin and it’s clear to see why SNL’s writers have so much fun with the show.
No doubt the final season of Game of Thrones will be intense, dramatic, and exciting. “Funny” isn’t usually a word to describe the show but that doesn’t mean it hasn’t had it’s moments over the past seven seasons. Saturday Night Live has been helping fill that gap with GoT sketches since the HBO series skyrocketed in popularity.
Having GoT actors Peter Dinklage, Jason Momoa, and Kit Harington host SNL has helped the writers give fans some really great sketches. You can check them out below along with a few others to help you get ready for tonight’s premiere.
