Stephen Colbert responded to President Trump blaming President Obama for separating immigrant children from their parents.

Nobody knows more about fudging the truth than Stephen Colbert. The man who coined the term “truthiness” is very familiar with how to push through a noting that “feels” right no matter the actual truth. It’s why Colbert once again called out President Donald Trump to get his facts straight.

If Colbert seems obsessed with Trump then it can also be said that Trump is obsessed with President Barack Obama. Trump has repeatedly criticized his predecessor and attempted to pass as much blame off to the Obama administration as possible. Perhaps only Hilary Clinton is mentioned more when it comes to politicians Trump references.

So it wasn’t all that surprising that President Trump attempted to pin the family separation policy and use of cages to detain immigrants on President Obama. But as he’s done time and time again on The Late Show, Stephen Colbert was quick to correct Trump’s lies.

President Obama’s time in office wasn’t without its own problems or questionable policy decisions. Even things that shouldn’t have been became scandals for President Obama. So it’s a bit bizarre that Trump would try to pass off something introduced by Jeff Sessions and Stephen Miller as an Obama-era decision.

Again Colbert gives his fans an example of President Trump acting as if whatever he says won’t be questioned or fact-checked. Colbert has suggested in the past that Trump doesn’t seem to grasp that everything he says publicly is recorded. But Trump is also the same man who looked into a camera and complained that his speech would get leaked to the media.

Colbert goes on to note that even Trump is struggling to maintain a consistent narrative over who is coming across the southern border. It’s either families looking to go to Disneyland or it’s murderous gangs. Neither seem to actually bother the president considering he went golfing the day after declaring a national emergency at the border.

The more political pressure applied to President Donald Trump, the more likely he is to pass blame onto President Barack Obama or tell an outright lie. When that happens you can be sure that The Late Show with Stephen Colbert will be among the first to correct the president and try to set the record straight.
