The Daily Show revisits another of President Obama’s major scandals
By Matt Moore
The Daily Show with Trevor Noah reminded audiences that President Barack Obama wasn’t without scandal while in office.
It can be easy to have short-term memories these days or to only want to look back on the good times of the past. But when it comes to former president Barack Obama’s tenure, The Daily Show is making a point to look back at his scandalous times, too.
All of late night is quick to jump on President Donald Trump for every lie, investigation, and breach of protocol associated with his administration. It can sound like Trump is the first and only president to be surrounded by controversy and scandal.
But in keeping with its long history of fair and balanced journalism, The Daily Show with Trevor Noah has been revisiting some of the more shocking scandals and unpresidential moments of the Obama years.
The latest trip down memory lane from The Daily Show demonstrates that President Obama perhaps didn’t take the office of president seriously enough and instead was intent on making it all about himself.
Is there anything less dignified than the selfie stick? Can you imagine a more self-absorbed president than Barack Obama? How the country ever trusted Obama with the nuclear codes given the fact he was taking selfies is beyond comprehension.
Of course, this was the commentary at the time. A time when wearing a tan suit and using a selfie stick for a promotional video were considered beneath the office of the president. It’s incredible how the standards have changed for the people who once criticized President Obama.
That hypocrisy will never be acknowledged by the likes of Fox News hosts who seemed so desperate to discount Obama as fit for the White House. We can only imagine the reaction if Obama’s behavior came close to that of President Trump’s since being in office.
It isn’t all that surprising to see a clip like this one from The Daily Show given how ultra-conservative news outlets cover politics. But it certainly is entertaining and reminds us that things weren’t always so crazy in the White House.
