The Late Show with Stephen Colbert

You can admit it. The one late night host you wanted to hear from above all others was Stephen Colbert. The Late Show has become the go-to spot for Donald Trump jokes and the unofficial response to everything coming out of the White House.

Night after night, Colbert has been going all-in on Trump. In just the past couple weeks he has called the president the “biggest loser” of the shutdown and suggested his negotiation tactics were the “definition of insanity.” Fans have certainly responded well and kept The Late Show on top of the ratings week after week.

So of course Colbert had to give the people what they wanted and go live after Trump’s State of the Union address. He interviewed director Spike Lee and the anchors from CBS This Morning. But not surprisingly Colbert was at his best during the monologue.

And also as you’d expect, Colbert was not impressed by Trump’s speech. The length and quality were criticized right out of the gate. From there he broke down almost every notable or questionable line delivered by the president.

Special credit goes to The Late Show writers for coming up with these jokes on short notice. A lot of them got an extra bump from Colbert’s unrelenting impression of Trump.

Best line: “It is so hot, if it wasn’t my economy perhaps I’d be dating it.” Nobody is going to forget the bizarre comment Donald Trump made about his daughter, especially not Stephen Colbert.

Both sides will spend today making the case for why President Donald Trump’s State of the Union was either a success or failure. Ultimately it won’t change much and the country will move on to whatever is next. No matter what that is, you can expect late night hosts like Jimmy Fallon, Seth Meyers, and Stephen Colbert to give their take on it all. And you can expect Last Night On to have it all covered.
