Colbert: Everything you need to know about The Late Show after the Super Bowl
By Matt Moore
The Late Show with Stephen Colbert will be airing a special episode Sunday night and we have all the info you need to know.
Everyone in the country knows the Super Bowl is a big deal. Super Bowl Sunday has become an unofficial holiday and brings with it one of the biggest spectacles in not just sports but culture. Tonight’s edition will be extra special thanks to Stephen Colbert.
Colbert is not one to let a major event go by without commentary. Of course we all know how he covers the president, Congress, and the Mueller investigation. But Colbert’s Late Show isn’t limited to just politics.
We’ve seen Colbert weigh in on the Oscars, the Grammys, and March Madness. So his version of The Late Show certainly doesn’t shy away from the big events that everyone is talking about. Tonight’s Super Bowl between the Los Angeles Rams and New England Patriots will be no different.
Colbert recently announced a special edition of The Late Show will air on Super Bowl Sunday. Last Night On has all the details you need to know.
When and where
The Late Show with Stephen Colbert will of course air on CBS. The station is also carrying the Super Bowl so it makes for a nice cross-promotion. Expect to see plenty of ads encouraging you to tune in to Colbert’s show.
CBS has The Late Show scheduled to start at 11:35 PM ET. It will run across the country and time zones at that time, so fans outside of the east coast should know this is different than a typical broadcast.
The show could start later than that depending on how things go with the game. It could go into overtime like it did during Super Bowl LI. Or something unpredictable could slow things down like the power outage during Super Bowl XLVII. But if everything goes according to plan and the trophy presentation ends on time, expect Colbert to go live at 11:35 ET.
The guests
Stephen Colbert will be joined by fellow late night host Conan O’Brien on the special episode. O’Brien recently returned to television after a hiatus with a new format for Conan. Already a unique talent in late night, O’Brien’s new show also sets him apart from shows like The Late Show and The Tonight Show.
O’Brien is also an avid fan of the New England Patriots thanks to growing up outside of Boston. He recently was back in Boston to visit the Samuel Adams brewery. Perhaps O’Brien will have a reason to celebrate with a few brews. That, or he’ll have an excuse to drown his sorrows.
Colbert and O’Brien are friendly and have helped each other out with bits dating back to Colbert’s time hosting The Colbert Report. O’Brien has previously been a guest of Colbert’s Late Show where he described getting a very unique gift from Colbert’s predecessor, Dave Letterman.
James Taylor will also be the musical guest for tonight’s special edition of The Late Show. Similar to Conan O’Brien, Taylor is from the Boston area and is also making a return to Colbert’s show. Colbert is a big fan of Taylor so he will surely be excited to have the legendary musician on the show.
According to CBS, more A-list celebrities are scheduled to appear. Who exactly that will be has not been announced. It sounds like Colbert has a few surprises in store to make the special episode even that much more special.
You can tune in to The Late Show with Stephen Colbert on CBS or stream it through the CBS All Access app. The Super Bowl is always among the highest rated television events of the year when it comes to viewership so a lot of eyes could be on Stephen Colbert tonight. The late night host surely wouldn’t want it any other way and should deliver a hilarious episode. Check back in with Last Night On for all the highlights!
