SyFy’s new animated late night talk show Alien News Desk is coming to television this winter and we have our first look at the series.

The late night format has been pretty consistent since its inception. Monologue, comedy bit, a couple guests, and goodnight. And while some hosts like Conan O’Brien are looking to change that up in 2019, nobody is taken quite the same approach as the SyFy network with Alien News Desk.

As Last Night On told you a few months backAlien News Desk will be a weekly late night talk show that happens to be animated. And hosted by aliens. Certainly doesn’t sound like anything else on television, does it?

The unique format of the show will allow for commentary on everything from human behavior, politics, and pop culture. The hook is that it will be from the perspective of an alien race who see humans as “the universe’s most baffling species.” Now SyFy has provided us with the first trailer to get a sense of what to expect:

Animated series can be a nonstarter for a lot of people. It can take them out of the viewing experience or give the impression that the humor will be too juvenile. While that argument can be valid in some cases, it shouldn’t prevent anyone from giving Alien News Desk a shot.

The people behind the show are just too talented not to come up with something special. The show features the voices of Will Forte and Heidi Gardner which should automatically catch the attention of Saturday Night Live fans. On top of that, Saturday Night Live executive producer Lorne Michaels and producer Erik Kenward are behind the show.
