A new Congress has just been sworn in so how about a new Real Time with Bill Maher to mark the occasion?

We are nearly a week into 2019 at this point. The new year usually means a fresh start or the perfect time for some changes. One change a lot of us would like to see is an end to Real Time with Bill Maher‘s hiatus and the star of season 17.

Season 16 came to end back in Nov. 2018. Last Night On has already covered all the best highlights from what was another provocative and hilarious year.  But things move fast in the world of politics and many of us are eager to hear Bill Maher’s perspective along with the discussion his panel brings.

It certainly feels like the right time for it. Yesterday the 116th Congress was sworn in as the Democrats took control of the House of Representatives. Plenty has already been made about the diversity and new political ideas coming to Washington from representatives like Ilhan Omar and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.

Just as much has been made about what a Democrat-led House under Speaker Nancy Pelosi will mean for President Donald Trump. More oversight is expected which is something Bill Maher has been calling for consistently on and off Real Time.

Yet we viewers will have to wait just a little bit longer to hear from Maher directly on Real Time. There is not a new episode tonight, Jan 4. Maher’s 17 season will kick off on Jan. 18 so we’re going to have to hang on for a couple more weeks.

There are still plenty of options out there if you’re looking for political humor on late night television. The Late Show with Stephen ColbertLate Night with Seth Meyers, and The Daily Show with Trevor Noah remain dedicated to covering all the headlines coming out of D.C. But we know that nobody has the same voice as Bill Maher. Hang in there, Real Time will be here soon!
