Last Week Tonight with John Oliver season premiere date announced
By Matt Moore
An official date has been announced for the start of Last Week Tonight with John Oliver’s sixth season.
It seems like it’s been a lot longer since Last Week Tonight with John Oliver ended it’s fifth season. It was Nov. 18 that Oliver signed off for the year. Maybe because so much has happened in the past month or so that needed Oliver’s take, it feels like he’s been away longer.
Thankfully, season five of Last Week Tonight gave us viewers plenty to digest. Oliver even capped off the year with the debut of another movie trailer featuring his beloved presidential wax figures. Other highlights from season five included Oliver discussing topics like the 2018 Italian general election, sexual assault allegations against Brett Kavanaugh, and President Donald Trump’s tariffs.
Since Nov. fans have been looking for Last Week Tonight to return to HBO. With Real Time with Bill Maher on hiatus since around the same period, there has certainly been a void when it comes to political comedy. That’s not to say that Stephen Colbert, Seth Meyers, and Samantha Bee aren’t providing excellent content but only that things are a bit different when it comes from HBO.
Now thanks to a press release from HBO, we know exactly when to expect John Oliver back on television. The sixth season of Last Week Tonight with John Oliver will begin on Sunday, February 17. The show will look to continue the momentum from 2018 and its four Emmy Awards.
Last Week Tonight with John Oliver will air at its normal 11:00 PM ET time slot when it returns next month to HBO. Like past seasons it will run for 30 episodes throughout the year. Things surely will get interesting as the year progresses and John Oliver is usually the right person to turn to when they do. Last Night On will have all the top moments covered this year so be sure to check back often.
