Steve Martin’s Christmas Wish Reprise, Season 35 (2009)

This bit by Saturday Night Live legend Steve Martin is actually an updated version of a sketch that he first debuted in 1986. The bit is a classic example of Steve Martin’s sense of humor and why he is considered one of the best cast members of all time.

Saturday Night Live doesn’t do any sketches like this these days. It is partly by choice of the writers but it could also be based on the cast members. It’s hard to imagine what performer from recent years could pull off something like this. That could be why for the 2009 update, Martin is joined by Kristen Wiig in character as Gilly to introduce the clip from 1986.

Martin’s Christmas wish proves that no matter how much we claim to “get in the holiday spirit” or are told it’s better to give than to receive, we all can’t help but wish for all the best things to happen to us.
