Political headlines suggest that more and more is spinning out of control. Is Real Time with Bill Maher back to provide some sanity?

It feels like it is getting harder to keep up with everything going on in the news. At the same time, it’s getting harder to be surprised by any of it. It’s times like these that the only voice of reason seems to come from Bill Maher on HBO’s Real Time.

If you watched Maher’s anniversary special, then you know that he’s been on television for a long time. And doing things on television that no one else is doing when it comes to political commentary. That’s why he has such an incredibly loyal fan base and a television show that continually gets high ratings and millions of views.

Those millions of Real Time fans are probably eager to hear what Maher has to say about the latest string of headlines coming from Washington, D.C. There is the resignation of James Mattis as secretary of defense, the ongoing fight over the wall, a possible government shutdown, and a withdrawal from troops from Syria.

That certainly adds up to a busy week. The other late night hosts have been doing their best to cover it for their audiences. Stephen Colbert has been amused about the 17 investigations related to President Trump and Seth Meyers took a closer look at how the Trump Foundation was a scam.

Hosts like Colbert and Meyers get the benefit of a nightly show whereas Real Time airs once a week. But they aren’t on HBO or have the freedom that Bill Maher has to say exactly how he feels and in his own unique voice.

Unfortunately, that schedule also means that Maher produces fewer episodes and takes longer breaks. Real Time will not be new this week as the show’s winter break continues. Season 17 will kick off in mid January, 2019.

But that doesn’t mean you still can’t get your Real Time fix. Last Night On has pulled together all the best moments from season 16. You can check out part one and part two.
