Jimmy Kimmel Live’s annual tradition has chosen the top viral clip of the year.

Since it debuted on ABC in 2003 Jimmy Kimmel Live! has built up quite a few traditions and annual events. There is the Halloween candy prank, each week in unnecessary censorship, and the belly flop competition among others. The Viral Clip of the Year is another one that has taken off in the age of social media.

The clips that are nominated for Clip of the Year are found by four very dedicated members of Jimmy Kimmel’s staff. They are tasked with watching local news stations, YouTube channels, and anywhere else videos are shared to find the best clips for Kimmel to show on air.

Stars of these clips often appear on Jimmy Kimmel Live! themselves. Other times, parody versions are on the show like last year. The 2017 Clip of the Year was “On the Nose,” in which a grandmother was hit by a monkey with flying feces at the zoo.

It was going to be hard to top that one in 2018 no matter what clips popped up. The nominees probably weren’t as strong as years past but there were still some entertaining moments that you’ll probably recognize as you watch the Clip of the Year presentation below:

It makes sense that the winner of the viral clip of the year was attempting to do one of the biggest viral trends of 2018. The “#InMyFeelings” challenge (if it should be considered a challenge) had a lot of cars rolling away and bad dancing flooding the internet. But nobody had a video quite like Jaylen Norwood.

Norwood actually appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live! when his video first went viral. He explained the original idea was for him to jump up on the hood of the car as it approached. But the speed and timing was off and well, you saw the result.

It all worked out for Norwood in the end. He got the attention and viral video he wanted by doing the challenge in the first place. And the video will now get a second life thanks to winning Jimmy Kimmel Live’s Viral Clip of the Year 2018. Hopefully it was worth whatever injuries he got from meeting that car face-first!
