More and more questions are being raised about everything surrounding President Donald Trump and Stephen Colbert seems amused by it all.

The Donald Trump White House has brought all sorts of emotions out of Stephen Colbert. The Late Show host has been angry, hopeless, and even shocked at times. But now as President Trump finds himself in an increasingly worst situation, Colbert can only laugh.

It is fitting that political commentators, pundits, and late night hosts have taken to saying that “the walls are closing in” around President Trump given how much of the presidency was built on the idea of a wall. And nobody seems to know more about how effective a wall can be than the president so that could explain why he’s been lashing out even more on Twitter.

Normally Stephen Colbert shakes his head at this type of behavior, breaking it down in his own unique way that provides audiences with plenty of laughs. During his monologue last night Colbert himself couldn’t keep from laughing at how Trump and lawyer Rudy Giuliani are attempting to avoid any blame or guilt related to the 17 investigations tied to Trump.

News that the president of the United States, his associates, and his campaign are the subject of 17  investigations shouldn’t be a laughing matter. That’s not what has Colbert laughing. Instead it is Giuliani’s attempts to argue alternative facts or misrepresent the truth on television despite almost never having an impressive or convincing performance when doing so.

Colbert rightly gives particular attention to some of the terms and phrases used as defenses. Calling a cooperating witness a “rat,” suggesting that search warrants were illegally carried out, saying “collusion is not a crime” all feel a little mob-esque, doesn’t it? Bill Maher drew this comparison better than anyone during one of the many highlights from this season of Real Time.

So when we see just how ridiculous everything sounds from Giuliani and Trump, it’s no wonder that Stephen Colbert is laughing out loud. Why Giuliani continues to go on television or why Trump continues to tweet is anybody’s guess. Perhaps they think they can hold off those walls from closing in but in Trump’s own words, they’re look to be coming “one way or the other.”
