Is Saturday Night Live new tonight, Dec. 15?
By Matt Moore
Last week featured plenty of Christmas-themed sketches so will Saturday Night Live still be back tonight?
It’s a tricky time of year when it comes to television schedules. Some shows have already hit their midseason finales, others are preparing holiday inspired episodes or specials, and others haven’t been seen since Thanksgiving. Saturday Night Live has already been hard to predict when it comes to on and off weeks.
The Christmas holiday can complicate that, too. Last week’s episode hosted by Jason Momoa had almost exclusively Christmas sketches. That led some fans to question if they were already watching the annual holiday episode. Prior to that, NBC had also aired a Saturday Night Live “best of Christmas” episode.
All that suggests that the gang over at Studio 8H were packed up and ready to shut things down until the New Year. But don’t be so quick to count Saturday Night Live out for 2018 just yet.
There will be an all-new episode tonight, Dec. 15. The show welcomes back Matt Damon as host and will feature musical guests Mark Ronson and Miley Cyrus. It will certainly go even heavier on the Christmas sketches heading into a holiday break.
Damon will bring the biggest star power to the hosting role this season. The year has included plenty of first-time hosts like Seth Meyers, Claire Foy, and Awkwafina. Damon will join Jonah Hill as hosts who are making multiple appearances as host.
Damon doesn’t have a major project to promote at the time but that doesn’t mean he’s not a good fit for hosting. He started off this season of Saturday Night Live with a cameo as Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh that remains one of the year’s highlights.
Saturday Night Live airs tonight, Dec. 15, on NBC at 11:30 PM ET. Enjoy it because it will be a few weeks before the show returns again with all new episodes. Last Night On will have a break down of all the highlights from Damon’s episode so be sure to check back in with us.
