Jordan B. Peterson, April 20

One of Bill Maher’s best interviews came on the April 20 episode of Real Time. Surprisingly enough, it wasn’t with the big name guest Michael Avenatti who was in the headlines at the time for representing Stormy Daniels.

Instead it was with Jordan Peterson. Peterson is a University of Toronto psychology professor who has been very critical of political correctness in his lectures, YouTube videos, and podcast appearances. His 2018 book “12 Rules for Life: An Antidote to Chaos” offered his thoughts on religion, ethics, and mythology among other topics.

In Peterson’s introduction alone you can see how excited Maher was to have him on the show. Is there anything Maher likes more than free speech and criticizing political correctness? Maher would months later make a compelling case that political correctness was ruining Halloween.

Peterson makes some interesting points about how higher education has led to the culture of political correctness, or as he sees it “moral posturing.” His thoughts on parenting also were right in Maher’s wheelhouse. Safe to say that Peterson will be popping up on Real Time more and more in the future.

Like any good clip from the show, this one is meant to inspire discussion out in the “real world.” Peterson’s calm approach to talking about a topic that usually can get heated is a nice change of pace and one that contributed to the overall conversation about free speech and political correctness.
