It could be a long time before Jason Momoa is invited back to The Tonight Show by Jimmy Fallon.

We all know how much Jimmy Fallon enjoys playing games. They have become his signature since taking over The Tonight Show.  They are also some of the few times we see the normally easy-going Fallon get a little more tight as his competitive side comes out. However, there seems to be no competing with Jason Momoa.

Momoa returned to The Tonight Show to promote his upcoming film Aquaman and his turn hosting this week’s Saturday Night Live. Momoa was sincere about his excitement over getting the Saturday Night Live gig. It’s been something he’s wanted to do since he was a kid.

But the big plug was for Aquaman. The film is gaining solid buzz ahead of its Dec. 21 release and is poised for a big opening weekend. Not many people outside of comic book fans may have taken notice of Momoa as Aquaman in 2017’s Justice League due to a poor reception and underwhelming box office performance.

Yet with help from director James Wan and a much different tone than Justice League, Momoa’s Aquaman should change that and catapult the former Game of Thrones actor into a new level of stardom. Before all that happens, Fallon wanted to put Momoa’s Aquaman skills to the test with a game of trident throwing. It went as you’d expect:

Jimmy Fallon is a talented man but not when it comes to throwing a trident. Not that most people would be but he sure seemed out of his depth here. Fallon is much more comfortable, and succesful, playing games in his wheelhouse like charades or “Box of Lies.”

The host did manage to land some beginners luck by getting one trident to stick. But ultimately he was no match for Jason Momoa. That makes Fallon 0-for-2 against Momoa after losing a game of “Water War” last year.

Knowing how competitive Jimmy Fallon can be, he may not want to see Jason Momoa back any time soon. Or at least he’ll be pulling for Momoa to land a role that doesn’t involve water and tridents so the next game is a little more fair. But the way things are looking, Momoa will be back promoting Aquaman 2 in not time.
